This year will mark the first ever event in the World Series of Poker with a buy in of more than $10,000; a $50,000 buy in HORSE contest.
The high buy in contest will include a combination of no-limit hold'em, Omaha, razz, stud and stud eight or better.
Running between June 25th and August 10th at the Rio All Suites Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas the 2006 World Series of Poker will have 45 individual poker tournaments with buy ins from $500 to $50,000. The buy in for the Main Event – no limit holdem world championship – remains at $10,000.
Jeffrey Pollack, newly appointed Commissioner of the World Series of Poker stated “We've heard from a number of players that a high buy-in event will enhance the World Series of Poker,” adding “We agree, and this schedule addition is an example of how we are innovating to build on the tradition and heritage of the tournament. This summer, one player will make poker history and win the first-ever World Series of Poker bracelet for a $50,000 event”.
5619 players entered the main event in 2005 with Australian Poker Pro Joseph Hatchem scooping first prize and a cool $7.5 million.
